Coupons & code attribution
Personal discount codes that credit their affiliate automatically — auto-generated at approval, tracked without cookies.
Why codes matter
Links depend on clicks; codes survive everything. A partner mentions "use code JANE10" on a podcast, a story, or a video — no click, no cookie, and the sale still credits them, because the code itself carries the attribution. Every serious program runs links and codes together; the strategy is covered in coupon attribution.
Automatic personal codes
On the Affiliates → Coupons screen, turn on auto-generation and every newly approved affiliate gets a personal WooCommerce coupon created for them on the spot, following your pattern and discount settings. Their code appears in their welcome email and dashboard next to their link — partners leave onboarding fully equipped.
Codes for existing partners can be created or linked manually too: any WooCommerce coupon can be assigned to an affiliate, and orders using it credit that affiliate.
How code attribution interacts with links
If a customer arrives through one affiliate's link but checks out with another affiliate's code, the code wins — the code is the stronger, more explicit signal of who drove the sale. This also makes codes the natural patch for cookie edge cases: cleared browsers, cross-device purchases, or referrals older than your tracking window.
Requirements & compatibility
Coupon attribution and auto-generation use WooCommerce's coupon system, so they need WooCommerce active. The plugin is compatible with stores running Advanced Coupons or Smart Coupons — your existing coupon setup keeps working alongside affiliate codes.
Watching performance
Referrals show whether they arrived by link or by code, so the Coupons screen doubles as a channel report: if a partner's code massively outperforms their link, they're doing spoken-word or offline promotion — useful to know when you plan campaigns together.
